Ivan at a Ben Rudnick and Friends show.

Ivan at a Ben Rudnick and Friends show.

We are the parents of a little five-year-old boy who LOVES music, so of course it makes sense that we regularly attend concerts in the Boston area. It’s a weekend tradition for us to head out to a children’s concert then go out to lunch at a nearby cafe. It’s great!

We started thinking that we should share our love of music with others by telling you about the musicians and shows and giving you a place to go to find out about upcoming music events. Your kids will have so much fun attending these shows and you’ll be supporting local artists at the same time!

If you have any artists you’d like to add to the site or events you want to see on the calendar, just let us know! Our email is…

Hi Amber,

Thank you so much for your great plug of my website. I’m glad you enjoyed it. I’ve had a blast putting it together. I’ve been so lucky to get the support of wonderful musicians and great people in the business.

Thank you again,
Lyn

I heard of it from Debbie Cavalier (Debbie and Friends). It’s really great and best of all, my son loves it!

I know many friends, teachers and fellow concert goers who are raving about an Canadian family entertainer/educator who writes and performs (as “Peter Puffin’s Whale Tales”)… songs that kids AND grown-ups love.

Browsing http://www.puffin.ca, you can tell that he really respects children and the parents/friends that get to listen to these mostly original (and often humorous!) songs about caring for the natural world, peace-building and caring for each other.

His latest album is the best yet! I bought a few to share with friends. Could send you one? Really like your site… as a highly worthwhile source for parents/teachers wishing to tap the power of music for sparking joy and creativity in our youngsters!

Looks like he mostly tours in Canada but has performed internationally, and interest in the Boston area (via a new musical find for your site visitors!) might even inspire a U.S. Tour. Keep up the great work on the web site!

Hey Amber,
I love reading your site, and especially liked Steve Blunt’s new column about music in the classroom. Just wanted you to know that several of us who make music with kids in New England are headed for Black Mountain, North Carolina this weekend for the annual conference of the Children’s Music Network (www.cmnonline.org). It should be lots of fun, meeting musicians from around the country, sharing ideas and playing lots of great music! I’ll send you an update!
Cheers, Liz Buchanan

Sounds like a lot of fun. If you want to write up a summary of the events afterwards I’d love to publish it!

We saw Girl Authority play some Highschool Musical songs this weekend – boy did the kids get excited!

I just heard a new children’s cd by The Mickey Spain Musical Jamboree, and it’s incredible! The songs are all originals… written by Mickey… and they’re unbelievably catchy. I’ve had one called “Barnyard Dance” stuck in my head for two days now! My kids aren’t toddlers (they’re 10 and 11) but they seriously love this cd. I was told the Jamboree was playing in the Boston/New Hampshire area and I was wondering if you’d seen them perform or maybe reviewed their music? They definitely seem like a talented bunch of musicians with a knack for writing songs kids will love!

Hey Amber,

I love what you are doing for children’s music. I’d love to submit my two children’s CD’s for review on your site. I am from New Mexico and have been performing in English and Spanish at schools, libraries and various other events for nearly five years.

Thank you for all that you do to promote music.

Hola and congrats on being a top site on BLOGGED!
Parents and their littles birdies age 1 to 5 are going wild for my new CD, Birdie’s Playhouse: The Wild World of Wildlife. How can I snail mail you a copy?

The CD is spicy (in a Latina sorta way), it features wildlife and is educational while making you want to “Baila like an Iguana.”

tweet tweet, Ole!

Hi Amber,
In my forgetful new mom state, I can’t remember if I already wrote to you, but shame on me if I didn’t. I just wanted to say THANK YOU for including us as one of your favorite performances of 2009, yay! And thank you for writing such a glowing review of us, both for the award article and in November after seeing our show. You’re the best. Thank you for adding your awesome website to the world to support children’s music in the Boston area! If you don’t have my CDs already, let me know, I’d be happy to send them to you (uh, review anyone? : ). I hope to see you and Ivan at a concert soon! Best, Vanessa

Hello Amber,

I’m excited to send you my fun new CD, “Singing All the Way Home.” Can you please send me an address so I can mail it to you? I also hope to get some buzz going about my upcoming CD release concert on Saturday, May 1 at the Regent Theatre in Arlington. It will be an exciting day for me in many ways! I have been in recovery mode for the past couple of months. I suffered a broken neck when a tanker truck turned over on top of my car on January 12, 2010, and have had to mostly take a breather from my usual music activities. Frankly, if you could see the pix of my totaled car, you’d understand how lucky I am to be alive to tell about this! I am hoping to be back to my usual high spirits and singing voice by May 1. It will be a great day – all the musicians from the CD will be there, plus the awesome kid singers who helped me on so many songs.

I hope you’re doing well and I look forward to hearing from you.

Cheers,

Liz Buchanan

Thanks for telling the world (and me) about this delightful album (Tingaleyo)! Those of us who agree that children love to hear (& learn) lots of languages, cannot get enough of wonderfully sung bilingual music! W

Hi, I don’t know what you mean by, “Your comment is awaiting moderation.” Can you make that more specific so that I know if you’ve received my comment? My dictionary defines the term as follows: moderation noun
1 he urged them to show moderation: self-restraint, restraint, self-control, self-discipline; temperance, leniency, fairness.
2 a moderation of their confrontational style: relaxation, easing (off), reduction, abatement, weakening, slackening, tempering, softening, diminution, diminishing, lessening; decline, modulation, modification, mitigation, allaying; informal letup.

Do you mean that you must review it first? If so, I suggest using a different term! Thanks, Wendy

Hi Amber and Ivan, What a great job you’re doing getting the word out about music for children. You’re really making a difference for all of us who love to hear, make, sing along with, attend, and in all ways enjoy quality music for kids and families!

And I appreciate that you are so far-reaching in your scope. You started with the music that’s available in your area, but then you generously reach out to let your readers become aware of musicians hither and yon! Thank you for the wonderful work you do.
