On June 11th, 2009, the kids at the Early Learning Center at the Perkins School for the Blind were surprised with a real treat—a fun-for-all concert from Ben Rudnick and Friends!
Playing acoustic guitar and mandolin (with the occasional banjo thrown in for good measure), Ben Rudnick and John Zevos got the room rocking with their special blue grass style renditions of classic tunes like “Skip to My Lou,” great originals like Race Car, and an assortment of Doc Watson songs as requested by the audience.
The concert was held in the Hilton Building Auditorium, giving it that classic “theatre” feel, but the band played close to the edge of the stage and most of the kids were in the front row, so they could really feel like they were part of the show.

Maybe some of the dancing got a bit out of hand (I was almost knocked over by little rambunctious Naomi), but the kids had so much fun and the energy level was great. This was a wonderful experience for the kids and their families and I’m so thankful to Ben and John for putting on such a fun show!
Did you know that you can ask Ben Rudnick and Friends to play at your event, too? From birthday parties to fundraisers, local bands are more than happy to come out and perform for your friends and family. The atmosphere is much more intimate than at a big theatre show and the band is always open to playing your kids’ favorites.
Costs differ from venue to venue, but it’s actually very reasonable (especially if you can get family to chip in) and the experience is worth every penny!
