Ivan loves to rock—I mean really rock! But I’m not very comfortable having him listen to rock for adults since so many grown-up themes are incorporated into most rock songs. He’s still a little guy and doesn’t need to be exposed to that!
But most kids’ bands just don’t get that same rock feel—at least that’s what I thought until I listened to The Brian Waite Band. From the first song on 20,000 Volts Under the Sea, Off to Atlantis City, which starts with some great electric guitar, Ivan was hooked!
Other songs, like Something Fishy, play with fun sound effects, and Disco Don
has a funky disco beat, but Ivan’s real love on this album is the electric guitar in songs like The Electric Eel Guitar
.
The ocean theme for this album is also a great idea. All of the songs are about the ocean or sea creatures. And who doesn’t love a good fish song?
One more thing about this album: Unlike most children’s CDs, this one comes with a twenty minute audiobook called 20,000 Volts Under the Sea: A Rock-and-Roll Adventure that’s written and performed by the Brian Waite Band. The story incorporates the songs from the CD and gives the whole album a fun story to go along with the ocean theme. And remember: Audiobooks are a great way to entertain kids in the car!
