Ivan’s rocking out to the Flannery Brothers at Halloween Town.
|
As we headed out to Halloween Town Boston on Saturday I figured we were in for a fun day. I was mistaken. We were actually in for an amazingly-exciting, euphoria-inducing, super fun day!
The party was held at the World Trade Center in Boston and they had a huge dark room all decorated up just spooky enough to be festive but not so scary as to freak out the kids. There were tons of games, giveaways, and candies and three different stages hosted story tellers, magicians, and music.
We decided to start our morning by checking out the Flannery Brothers on the Library Stage. We absolutely love their CD, Love Songs for Silly Things, but we’d never seen them perform live before.

Dan singing Jump Up and Down
|
Well, after seeing their high-energy act I now know what Dan means when he sings “I’m not so into being tired” in Jump Up and Down.
Mike and Jonathan were absolutely perfect on guitar and drums, but Dan definitely stole the show by taking advantage of his wireless mic and running around the stage and the room, singing, dancing, and just getting everyone excited.
It was such a fun show we opted for a second showing in the afternoon when they appeared on the Graveyard Stage. As my husband pointed out, “Seeing the Flannery Brothers perform two times is twice as much fun as seeing them once.”

Stacey Peasley.

We also wanted to make sure to catch Stacey Peasley, another singer we’d listened to recorded but hadn’t yet seen live. She was just as cute and sweet as I imagined she would be. She appeals to the little kid crowd with songs about bubble baths and riding in the car, experiences any little one can relate to. Of course there were a few Laurie Berkner songs thrown in for good measure, too.
We made it over to the main stage a few times, too, though we did somehow manage to miss Dan Zanes. But we did get to see Girl Authority perform a couple songs from High School Musical and we also caught some songs from Flooky and the Beans.

Flooky and the Beans.

Flooky was pretty cool. Their show is very theatrical with story lines and vivid costumes. I think it’s great for kids to see elaborate shows with props and synchronized dancing—it’s fun and it gives them a taste of musical theatre. And if you missed Flooky at Halloween Town, they’ll be playing at the Regent this Saturday!
Halloween Town was much more exciting than I had imagined it could be. The facility was clean and festive and the performances were all family-friendly and thoroughly entertaining. If you missed it this year be sure to catch next year’s showing!
