We went out to see Sara Wheeler and her band Little Groove perform at the Regent Theatre in Arlington on Sunday. Ivan fell asleep on the drive out to the theatre so we weren’t sure how he would react to being woken up by a concert, but Sara’s voice is so soothing and sweet that Ivan woke up happy and rested.
Sara Wheeler sings with a very celtic sound and her music, even when performing traditional songs like Five Little Ducks, has a unique and interesting feel. Ivan loved the acoustic guitar in songs like Under the Big Apple Tree
, the djembe drums in Ants!
, and the addition of the trumpet in the live version of Doggie Park
was just plain exciting!
The band was great and fun to watch, all dressed up as lady bugs and fairies. Krysta sang back up vocals and also brought out puppets and props to keep the kids involved and entertained. Mariana, the bass player, and Tommy, the drummer, were both fantastic. If you get the chance to see Little Groove perform live, don’t miss it!
Their CD is also a great buy, titled Building Blocks. Our favorite songs on the CD are Cat Went Fiddle-Ie-Fee
, Polka-Dot Dress
(an adorably sweet song about lady bugs), and of course the pirate song, Pirate Ship
. You can listen to samples from the CD by clicking the image to the right.
You can learn more about Little Groove at their website, www.LittleGroove.com, or find out about their music classes for toddlers at www.BabyWiggle.com. Sara Wheeler also performs acoustic folk rock for adults: www.SaraWheeler.com.
