Mariana Iranzi: Aventura Collage

by Amber on June 9, 2009

in CD Reviews

Aventura Collage is Mariana Iranzi’s debut children’s album. Originally from Argentina, Mariana now lives and teaches music in the greater Boston area, and though the recordings on this CD are mostly in Spanish (with a sprinkling of English), the sounds and themes cross national boundaries.

Mariana, like most children’s artists, plays with all sorts of different musical styles, from rock to folk, but all of her songs seem to me to have a strong bosanova influence, reminiscent of Astrud Gilberto’s silky voice and soft tones. My favorite song on the CD, Cuidemos Al Planeta (Let’s Save the Planet), really reminds me of The Girl from Ipanema (one of my all time favorite songs).

My son, Ivan, is very drawn to foreign language CDs, particularly in Spanish, so he was taken by this album from the beginning. He really responds to the sing-song rhythm in songs like Caballito (Horsey) and the rock beat in Abra Cadabra.

Check out Mariana’s website to learn more about her music classes and live performances: www.MarianaIranzi.com.

I’m always so happy to find another great local children’s performer creating wonderful original music who lives right here in Boston! Buy their CDs, support the artists, but even more importantly, go out to see their shows! Your kids will love you for it!
