Something for Everyone

by Amber on September 12, 2010

There are so many new CDs coming out now and in the next couple of months and in so many different genres. Just like grown up music, kids’ music covers all tastes and styles, from country to rock, hip hop to jazz, and everything in between.

Check out some of these new releases below and see if there’s something that tickles your fancy:

Oran Etkin: Wake Up ClarinetJazz
Oran Etkin’s new CD, Wake Up Clarinet, reminds me of the old school jazz songs you still sometimes here on Sesame Street. Very playful, very teachable, and just plain fun. This CD also includes the wonderful song Little Lamb Jam, which appeared earlier this year on the Putumayo Jazz collection. Wake Up Clarinet will be released on September 14th.

Professor Banjo: Old Time, Good Time!Blue Grass
Who doesn’t love a good banjo tune? I love how banjos can sound both incredibly complicated and simply old fashioned at the same time. And Ivan loves banjos! Check out Professor Banjo’s new CD, Old Time, Good Time! for a heavy dose of traditional sounds and country vibes. This CD was released earlier this year.

Bill Harley: Best Candy in the Whole WorldStories
Even though I do love music, sometimes it’s nice to turn the tunes off for a bit. When we want to listen to something other than music, we always turn to Bill Harley, one of the best story tellers I know. Bill’s new CD, The Best Candy in the Whole World, is over an hour of stories that are sometimes silly and sometimes enlightening, but always fun to listen to. Even Ivan, a boy who has a difficult time with anything that lacks rhyme or rhythm, can sit still for an entire 20 minute story told by Bill Harley, which just goes to show how much animation and energy Bill injects into his tales. This CD will be released on September 14th.

Secret Agent 23 Skidoo: Underground PlaygroundHip Hop
LBut if you are looking for rhyme and rhythm, look no further than Secret Agent 23 Skidoo’s new album Underground Playground. 23 is known as the King of Kid Hop, kid-friendly hip hop. Give it a shot—it’s pretty cool! I like the song Once Upon a Rhyme. This new CD was just released on August 31st.

Didi PopPop
Didi Pop’s first album, Didi Pop, came out last year, but her new album, Didi Goes to Hawai’i, is getting ready for release soon (you can already purchase some of the songs on her website). Didi Pop plays, well, POP! Her songs are just plain old fun songs for children that cover subjects little kids can relate to (like having a tummy ache) and teach lessons mom and dad will approve of (like sitting still during meal time). Stay tuned for more info about her new Hawai’i album!
