We got to see SteveSongs and the Sensational Sillies play at the Brimmer and May school on Sunday. The theatre was packed and the performance was perfect. You just can’t go wrong with a SteveSongs concert!
What I love about Steve is his ability to combine music, comedy, and good old fashioned audience interaction. You really feel like Steve is creating the show not only for you, but with you. He tells jokes, plays off the audiences’ response, and gets the kids dancing and singing better than just about anybody.
Of course, you do have to expect some of the kids to yell out requests or just plain say “Hi” during the show, but it all just contributes to the delightfully fun family atmosphere.
My favorite moment was when Steve was playing his Library song, which begins with a riddle and clues about the place he’s singing about: It’s got things for boys and girls, they let you borrow their stuff for free, etc. And one little kid confidently yelled out “APPLE!” Steve couldn’t help but laugh.
We were also happy to hear them perform all of our favorite songs. Which are our favorite songs? Well, it took some thinking, but we’ve narrowed it down to three: Elephant Hide and Seek, The Pirate Song
, and No Good Toys
(thanks to the little boy sitting in front of me that convinced Steve to sing this one). I know we’re missing some really good ones (like Fast Monkey
and Opposite Day
), but they can’t all be favorites!
SteveSongs and the full band will be playing two shows on October 10th at the Regent Theatre. This is going to be both a CD release party for their new CD featuring songs performed on PBS and the kick off show for the Regent’s Family Fun Series. We’ll see you there!
