Vanessa Trien at the Regent

Ivan in Arlington

Ivan waiting for the show to start.

After missing Vanessa Trien at the Coolidge Corner Theatre last month (the show sold out when we were about five people away from the box office), we were very happy to get to see her and her band, the Jumping Monkeys, perform at the Regent on Saturday.

Vanessa’s shows are perfect. It’s hard to explain and I can’t quite put my finger on what it is they do differently, but whatever it is, it really gets the kids (and parents) excited!

Vanessa’s songs are brilliantly crafted and play with themes that fascinate young children: How does the body move? How do words rhyme? How can we all be happy?

The band is also wonderful, but I have to say that I’m always particularly impressed with Sharon, Vanessa’s back-up singer. She’s cute and funny and has way too much energy for a mom! She wonders off the stage into the crowd, gets kids to parade around the theatre, and does a perfect southern accent when playing Wyona for the song Wyona Wide. And she looks great in monkey ears!

Vanessa’s shows are always a big hit with the fans and Ivan was particularly excited to hear a couple new songs today, like “One Fine Day” and “Tickle Monster” (he really liked that last one). Hmmmm. New songs? Does this mean we might be getting a new Vanessa Trien CD soon?

Vanessa is up there with some of the best performances we’ve seen. If you get a chance to see her live, with or without the full band, don’t miss it! Her next show will be at the Brattle Theatre on November 21st.

WOW. Wow. I just thought I’d check out this website since I met the wonderful woman at my last concert who hosts the site, and lo and behold, I found this amazing review of our last show! THANK YOU SO MUCH! I”m thrilled you enjoyed the show, and appreciate you spreading the word to others! Seriously, thank you so much, I’m honored to have your praise.
All the best, Vanessa
