A typical weekend for us involves fun kids’ music shows and going out to eat at yummy cafés. These are two of Ivan’s passions: good music and good food.
And Boston has both in spades. That’s why I love this town.
This past weekend we finally got to see Leeny and Tamara in concert. They were playing at the Arlington Heights Nursery School as part of their winter fundraiser. School shows are some of my favorites because you get to see the performers up close and personal. Plus they always have some yummy baked goods for sale as part of the festivities and who can turn down home-made snowman cupcakes?
Leeny and Tamara put on a really fun show. They were engaging and spoke directly to the kids in the audience, even letting them on stage and talk or sing into the microphone. This was an involved show where you couldn’t tell where the performance ended and the audience began.
Most of the songs that they sang were lessons. Kids learned about ladybugs, sharing, or the epidermis. This might sound boring, but Leeny and Tamara have a way of making lessons fun, and that’s the best way for kids to learn and retain new information! If you haven’t listened to their CD Sharing the Same Stars, you’re really missing out.
The store was packed with families excited to see a free Vanessa Trien show and even though the venue was simple and Vanessa didn’t have her full Jumping Monkeys band with her, no one was disappointed. Vanessa puts such heart into every one of her performances and you just can’t go wrong with any of her fun-loving songs. Ivan loves the Vanessa classics, like Good Morning! and Driving in My Car.
Plus when the show’s over you’re in a toy store. You can’t beat that!
Why wouldn’t I love this town?
